# Linear Integration

Bring your Linear issues onto a board and edit them in Spreo.

{% hint style="info" %}
The Linear integration is included in every plan, including the free trial, except Starter.
{% endhint %}

The Linear integration brings your Linear issues onto a board as live cards, for sprint planning, backlog refinement, or talking through issues in a retro. Changes you make to a card on the board are saved back to Linear.

### Connect your Linear account

Each person connects their own Linear account. No admin setup is needed.

* The first time you import Linear issues or edit a Linear card, Spreo asks you to sign in to Linear.
* You can also connect ahead of time from Integrations in Your Settings.

Spreo asks Linear for read and write access, so it can load your issues and save your edits.

{% hint style="info" %}
Each Spreo organization connects to one Linear workspace. The first person to connect sets it, and everyone else in the organization must connect to that same workspace. If you sign in to a different workspace, the connection fails and asks you to use the right one. Contact support if your organization needs to switch workspaces.
{% endhint %}

### Import Linear issues

1. Open **Insert** in the toolbar and choose **Linear Issues**.
2. Find your issues. Filter by team, project or assignee, and by status once you've picked a team. You can also search by title, or paste an issue identifier such as ENG-123.
3. Select the issues you want and click **Import**. If you don't select any, Import brings in every issue in the list.

The issues are added to your board as Linear cards. Each card shows the issue's identifier, title, status, priority, assignee and project.

### Edit a Linear card

Double-click the title, status, priority or assignee on a card to change it.

For more, click the button in the top right of the card. This opens the issue in a side panel, where you can:

* read and edit the description
* read comments, add your own and reply
* change the status, priority, assignee, cycle, labels and project

### Bulk change Linear cards

Select several Linear cards and choose **Bulk Change** from the bar above them. You can assign the issues, or change their priority or status, all at once.

### Other card options

With a Linear card selected, the bar above it also has:

* **Open In Linear**, to open the issue in a new tab
* **Reload From Linear**, to fetch the latest version of the issue
* **Color**, to colour the card. This only changes the card in Spreo, not the issue in Linear.
* **Group Under Topic(s)**, to group the cards under a topic, just like sticky notes

### Delete a Linear card

Select the card and press Delete. This removes the card from your board. It **does not** delete the issue in Linear.

### How syncing works

Changes you make to a Linear card in Spreo are saved to Linear straight away, and everyone on the board sees them. Changes made in Linear show up in Spreo when the board is opened or reloaded, or when you click **Reload From Linear**.

### What you can't do yet

* You can't create Linear issues from sticky notes. If you use an AI assistant, it can read your board through the [Spreo MCP server](/boards/mcp.md) and create the issues with Linear's own MCP server.
* The Spreo MCP server can't place Linear cards on a board.

### Who can see and edit Linear data

* Anyone who can open the board can see the Linear cards on it, including guests and visitors.
* However, at least one person on the board needs to be connected to Linear for the issue details to load. Otherwise only the card outlines and issue keys will be shown.
* Only people who have connected their own Linear account can edit the issues, and only the issues their Linear account can access.
* The board only stores which issues are on it. Issue details are loaded from Linear when the board is opened, and held in memory while the board is in use.

To disconnect, go to Integrations in Your Settings and click **Disconnect**. This removes Spreo's access to your Linear account.

### Linear integration feedback

The Linear integration is new, so tell us what's missing for your team. Talk to us using the support chat in your boards, or email us at <contact@spreo.io>.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spreo.io/boards/linear-integration.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
